Entry #8: Extreme Ironing

Have your ever heard of something called Extreme Ironing? Well, it is exactly what is sounds like, ironing clothes in extreme and often dangerous locations. I felt that this was very unusual, I have never actually heard of this before until a couple of weeks ago. This unusual sport combines the task of ironing with the adrenaline rush of extreme sports. Participants, known as "ironists", take their ironing boards to places like mountain tops, underwater, while skydiving, or even in the middle of a busy street.

This sport was reportedly invented in 1997 by a man named Phil Shaw, a resident of Leicester, England. Shaw decided to take his ironing board into his backyard garden to add a bit of excitement to the task. This simple act sparked the idea of combining ironing with adventure, and thus, extreme ironing was born.

For most people, this sport of extreme ironing is a way to break the same cycle of everyday chores and to add a sense of adventure to their lives. It's also a way to showcase creativity and push the boundaries of what can be considered a sport. Ironists often compete to find the most unusual and challenging locations to iron, making it a unique blend of performance art and extreme sports.

In conclusion, extreme ironing is a testament to human creativity and the desire to find excitement in the most unexpected places. It's a sport that challenges the norms and proves that even the most tiresome tasks can be transformed into thrilling adventures.

  1. Wow. There's a hobby or sport for any interest! I don't like ironing enough to want to even do it in my home - definitely don't want to take it camping or boating with me!?
