Entry #2 Conflicting with Self Generated thinking

This blog entry was titled self-generated thinking. The purpose of this blog was to pick any topic I wanted and to write about it professionally. The instruction of picking any topic I wanted was honestly kind of hard for me to do considering all of the topics you could pick from which is a lot. When I first read the instructions for this assignment, I told my mom to give me a topic and any topic. She came up with three different topics so fast and she said, "What is the purpose of nose hairs? Why are eyes oval shaped, and why do people pull out their eyebrows and eyelashes?" I wasn't too sure why she said that last one, but she did. In the end of all of that I knew I could research these topics and learn about them, but I also just felt no motivation of thinking and felt like I didn't have creative juices flowing. So, I thought that I would write about self-generated thinking and why it can be so hard for us as human individuals.

Self-Generated thinking is described as mental contents arising independently from the direct environment or the task at hand. In this example self-generated thought is coming from the task at hand. In this American Psychological Association article, it explains how our creative thinking comes from our frontopolar cortex. It states," Also found evidence that an area called the frontopolar cortex, in the brains frontal lobes, is associated with creative thinking." The same article also explains that dopamine has also been proven to increase not only the quantity and originality of ideas, but also our flexibility in thinking. So back to the question of, why can it be so hard for some people to form self-generated thought? Majority of the reasons has to do with your dopamine release. The reasons why humans can have problems with releasing dopamine can be because they have ADHD, they can be overwhelmed/stressed, have anxiety, hormone shifts, awareness, learned behaviors, and mental health. These are just some of the reasons why we have trouble in our Self-generated thinking. To help with some of these things you can create weekly or monthly planners to keep everything organized. This can help with limiting your stress and keep you from being overwhelmed. Another thing you can practice is to go into certain things with a clear mind and make sure you are well rested and to stay on top of sleep.

In conclusion, this is why this self-generated thinking assignment stumped me a little bit on the creatively thinking process. Now that I have done research on why certain things can conflict with our self-generated thinking, I feel that now I can have a list of ways to help that and just have the knowledge in general of why this happens.

  4. Interesting twist to write about the thing you were given free rein to write about - very meta.

You've got a good start on these entries, Taryn, and are developing the necessary aspects of a well-organized and thoughtful entry. Consider integrating your photo support within the body of your post where it relates to the point your making instead of dumping it at the bottom of the entry.
